In early 2020, followed by December 2019 outbreak of Coronavirus got identified from Wuhan and other cities of Hubei, province of China. Nearly 6,000 cases have been reported there and round 132 people have died due to this virus.

What is Coronavirus?

Coronavirus came from a Latin word corona, which means halo or crown. As under the microscope, it looks like a solar corona.

A coronavirus is a large group of viruses that causes respiratory infections ranging from cold to MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome due to which 858 people died in 2012 in Saudi Arabia.) and SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. These viruses are believed to be transmitted from animals to humans. SARS was said to be transmitted from civet cats while MERS from a type of camel to human beings. Coronavirus is considered to be more dangerous than these two types.

From where it got originated?

Chinese health authorities are trying to determine its origin. According to them it came from seafood market in Wuhan where wildlife was also traded illegally.

According to Chinese scientist Snakes including Chinese krait and Cobra could be the source of this virus. However, a little is known about this virus yet but its transmission from human to another human is confirmed.

It is particularly dangerous in older people or people with weakened immune systems or other illnesses.

What kills coronavirus?

It is reported that Room temperature kills coronavirus within 48 hours. However, Carpeting is protecting the virus and it is able to survive in carpeting for at least 7 weeks.

Symptoms

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), its symptoms include

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Breathing difficulties

In severe cases, it can lead to

  • Pneumonia
  • Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)
  • Kidney Failure and even death.

It is particularly dangerous in older people or people with weakened immune systems or other illnesses.

Precautions

  1. In case of any occurrence of symptoms, must consult relevant doctors immediately.
  2. Wearing masks in public.
  3. Hands must be washed frequently.
  4. Coronavirus thrives in a colder environment. Use heaters to keep places warm.
  5. Crowded places like malls or other shopping areas should also be avoided.
